What you can expect from Helping Individuals One Day At A Time:
An individual treatment plan designed to address each specific goal.
Before providing any mental health treatment to a child or youth, a comprehensive treatment plan will be established. The Individual Treatment Plan (ITP) is essential, as it informs the counsellor about the goals, type of services, service intensity and progress indicators that are designed for the child's individual issues, needs and preferences.
A therapeutic experience designed to improve life satisfaction.
Individuals can help themselves by being committed to the counselling process - it often requires effort and determination to work efficiently. Individuals who know what they would like to achieve from counselling are already halfway to solving their issues. However, counselling can also assist individuals to determine their goals if the individual is unsure of which way to turn. Although individuals can choose what they reveal in counselling, it is important that what they do disclose is as honest and accurate as possible, in order for the counsellor to gain a clear insight and understanding of the individual.
Individual mental health counselling
Individual counselling is a collaborative process in which a unique, confidential relationship is developed between a counsellor and a willing individual. In this relationship, the counsellor acts as a guide to help individuals understand themselves and the world around them more accurately. The counsellor and individual explore feelings, behaviours, relationships with others, choices and decisions, as well as the individual's current situation.
Family mental health counselling
Family counselling is also a collaborative process in which a unique, confidential relationship is developed between a counsellor and a willing family unit. In this relationship, the counsellor acts as a guide to help families understand their interactions more accurately. A counsellor and the family explore feelings, behaviours, relationships with other family members, choices and decisions that affect the family as a whole.
In-home assessments and support
All counselling sessions are held in the comfort of the individual's own home, allowing for a more relaxed and comfortable setting. In providing services this way, it provides individuals a sense of equality so that they are less guarded and feel freer to open up and discuss difficult issues.
When required Helping Individuals One Day At A Time will liaise with local professionals in the community, such as doctors, teachers and administrators on behalf of clients.
Referral to appropriate community services
When determined throughout the counselling sessions that an issue warrants outside professional assessment, a referral is made on behalf of the family/individual for the assessment. Before any referral is made on behalf of a family/individual, the family/individual will give their expressed consent to proceed with the referral.
